Q) Describe the significance of NADP during photosynthesis
Main points
Key idea:
What is nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP)
· Co-enzyme + electron acceptor
· Oxidized NADP can be reduced to NADPH, temporarily stores energized e + H+ (produced during light dep rx of photosyn)
Key idea:
Role of NADPH during light indep rx
· Reduce glycerate-3-phosphate, to form triose phosphate / glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate (G3P) 
· Some triose phosphates combine to form glucose phosphates, eventually produce starch, fats & proteins
· Rest of triose phosphates regenerate ribulose bisphosphate (RuBP) for carbon fixation
Key idea:
Regeneration of NADP+ for light dep rx
· By donating its H to glycerate-3-phosphate, NADP+ is regenerated
· Continue to accept e + H+ fr light dep rx
· Coenz continues to contribute to light indep rx for syn of diff bio-molecules (e.g. starch)
